CATS GO DOWN IN A TIGHT BATTLE Round 17 : Walkerville 16-7 (103) lost to Eastern Park 19-17 (131) Walkerville hosted Eastern Park in a crucial round 17 match on Saturday. Going into the match, the Cats were equal second, but amazingly, still a chance to miss the finals, with 2 matches remaining. While the in-form Eastern Park were a game behind the Cats in the race for the double chance. The Cats jumped out to an early lead, kicking 3 of the first 4 goals, as Adam Law (5 goals for the day) continued to provide an avenue to goals, while Sam Priest provided a good target also. The Cats were advantage by kicking with the breeze in the first quarter, but Eastern Park provided strong resistance and turned the momentum in the second half of the quarter, to kick 3 goals in succession. Nothing could separate the teams at the first break, 4-3 (27) apiece. Having not fully utilised the scoring end in the first quarter, the Cats put up a determined fight in the second term, in what was proving to be a tight arm-wrestle. The match heated up in more ways than one, as both sides tried to grab the ascendancy. A 9-point margin at half time had the game well in the balance. The opening 10-15 minutes of the third quarter was a disaster for the home side, as, kicking with the wind, we could only manage 1 goal to 4, as the margin blew out to 27 points. Goals to Geoff Munn, James Taylor, Frazer Scanlon, Ryan Madden and a great goal on the run by Lee Henderson had the Cats remarkably back in front, by 2 points at three quarter time. From there however, Eastern Park took control of the game, running away with a 28 point victory, to dent the Cats push for a double chance. Division

CATS CELEBRATE 1990 REUNION IN STYLE Walkerville 20-12 (132) def Pembroke OS 11-18 (84) The Walkerville Cats ramped up their claims for a finals spot in season 2010 with a controlled and confident 48-point victory over Pembroke OS on Saturday. On a day that the club celebrated the 20-year reunion of no less than 3 teams from 1990, it was the 2010 squad who put on a show on the field. It was not all one way traffic however, with the first quarter being hotly contested. Aided by the breeze, Pembroke were able to match the Cats throughout the opening stanza, with Walkerville thankful for a solid display early from their back 6. At the first break, nothing could split the 2 sides, 3-2 (20) apiece. The Cats managed to gain some degree of ascendancy in the second quarter, with Adam Law at his creative best, with 6-goals for the day and Stu Callary putting on an excellent display down back to repel Pembroke attacks time and time again. The margin grew to an even 3 goals by half time, but with Pembroke to have the scoring end in the 3rd quarter, the match was still up for grabs. Sam Priest began to stamp his influence on the match in the second half, with 4-goals for the day, to again be an important contributor for the home side. While the on-ball brigade was lead well by Chad Beard, who continued his excellent form of recent weeks. Extending the margin to beyond 4-goals by the last break, the Cats continued the momentum throughout a dominant last quarter to come away with an 8-goal victory. The win has Walkerville in a tie for second position on the Div 2 ladder, with 2 home and away matches remaining. This weeks match is certain to be a classic, as the Cats host the 4th placed Eastern Park. The winner will move a game clear in the double chance position going into the final round. Once again, we hope to see all Walkerville fans at the Cattery on Saturday for what will be a triple header. Division

CATS ROLL ON TO 3RD STRAIGHT WIN Walkerville 15-5 (95) def Rostrevor OC 13-11 (89) In the match of round 15, Walkerville hosted Rostrevor in the battle for 3rd spot. Both sides came into the match, locked on 9 wins from their first 14 matches and this one promised to be a titanic tussle. The match didn't fail to live up to expectations. Throughout the opening term, neither team could gain any significant ascendancy, in a high quality start on a good day for football. It was the Cats who were able to hold the early lead, with Sam Priest in fine form all day, giving his on-ball brigade first look at it time and time again. a 5 goal to 4 opening term, typified both teams desire to get on the front foot and attack. The Cats produced some of their best football in the second term to blow the game wide open. With Chad Beard racking them up, Trent Hill returning to the line up and Damian Eagleton continuing his good season, the Walkerville boys played some irresistable football to open up a 6 goal advantage by the long break. Once again, the side was able to share the goals around, in what is becoming a strong team trait in season 2010, with Adam Law and Eag's the best of them with 3 goals apiece, while Garry Coombes was able to jag 2 in the space of as many minutes to keep the momentum with the home side. As expected, ROC's fought back hard in the 3rd quarter, to get right back in the match. Nick Flood continued to do an impressive job on league leading goal kicker Lister, which certainly tipped things in the Cats favour. A 6 goal half time lead was narrowed to within just 3 at the last break, with the game well and truly anyones for the taking. Buoyed by strong home crowd support, the Walkerville boys were able to get the job done in the last quarter, with Fraser Marshall calmly slotting through the sealer. A late Rostrevor goal had heart pumping again, but the Cats held on for a well deserved 6-point victory. The win gives the side outright 3rd spot, with 3 games remaining. However, with only 2 matches separating 3rd and 6th, every single one of the remaining matches promises to be crucial, starting with the Cats hosting Pembroke this Saturday at Walkerville. We once again look forward to our supporters being there in full voice, as we continue our fight for a finals berth.

WALKERVILLE FOOTBALL CLUB SPORTSMAN'S LUNCH This Friday : July 23rd
CATS FIGHTBACK TO CLAIM THE POINTS Walkerville 13-11 (89) def Adelaide Uni 11-15 (81) Walkerville travelled away to Adelaide Uni on Saturday for the match of the round against the top of the table Adelaide Uni. Going into the match in outright 4th position, the Cats were eager to avenge a home loss to Uni from earlier in the season. With the aid of a strong breeze in the first quarter, Walkies siezed the early control. Early goals to Josh Gould, Wade Ryan and Ryan Madden had the Cats in front, but never by any significant advantage, as Uni showed why they were top of the table, in a closely fought first quarter. By the first change, the Cats were in front by a goal, 5 goals to 4, but with a big job in front of them. Uni came out all guns blazing in the second quarter as Walkerville's intensity dropped off markedly. A solid first quarter effort quickly evaporated, as Adelaide Uni, aided by the breeze, piled on the goals to open up a 4 goal lead at half time. Coach Peter Scheuffele implored his players at the half time break to rediscover the attack on the ball that had so abruptly gone missing. His players responded in the best way possible, storming back into the match in a very impressive third quarter effort. Wade Ryan, 3 goals for the day, was having a strong impact, while the midfield began to consistently win the clearances, given the forwards plenty of opportunities to mount scoreboard pressure on Uni. Walkerville hit the front with 5 minutes remaining in the 3rd quarter, before 2 late and contentious goals were scored by Adelaide Uni, to snatch the lead back from the Cats at the final change. A huge effort was required in the final quarter, down by a couple of points and kicking into the wind. The job was made all the more challenging as Adelaide Uni kicked the first goal of the last quarter. Once again however, the players were up to the challenge. An inspiring last quarter effort saw the Cats dominate for much of the quarter. As had been the challenge all day, scoring goals was proving difficult, as, despite being on top for much of the last quarter, Walkerville couldnt convert this to a goal until approximately the 15 minute mark. A brilliant 5 minutes of football followed, as the Cats banged home 3 quick goals to grab the ascendency, eventually storming home for a 13-11 (89) to 11-15 (81) victory. The win puts the Cats into a tie for 3rd with 4 matches remaining. This week sees Walkerville come up against Rostrevor, with whom we are currently tied with. This marks the first of 3 straight home games for the Cats. Division 2

CATS GO DOWN FIGHTING
Round 11 : A Grade
Walkerville 11-9 (75) lost to PHOS Camden 11-13 (79)
In front of a big home crowd, the Walkerville A grade paid the ultimate price for a poor quarter and a half of football, ultimately going down by 4-points to fellow finals contender PHOS Camden at Walkerville Oval. WIth the celebration of 1950, '70 and '80 Premierships occuring in the clubrooms and with the annual Family Day also being staged, the Cats fought right to the very end but were left regretting a poor 3rd quarter of football.
In a match up between 2nd and 3rd on the SAAFL ladder, this match was always going to be a hard slog, coupled with the fact the Walkerville Oval is beginning to show the effects of winter.
